5G in Israel 2026: Coverage, Carriers & Plans

Israel rolled out its first 5G networks in late 2021, and the technology has matured significantly since then. As of 2026, three major carriers offer 5G service, coverage has expanded well beyond the initial launch areas, and you can get a 5G plan for as little as 69/month. But is 5G actually worth it? And which carrier has the best coverage? This guide answers every question you might have about 5G in Israel.

Which Israeli Carriers Offer 5G?

As of January 2026, three of Israel's four major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) offer 5G service:

  • Cellcom -- Israel's largest carrier with approximately 2.8 million subscribers. Cellcom was among the first to roll out 5G and has invested heavily in expanding its 5G infrastructure across the country.
  • Partner (Orange) -- Israel's second-largest carrier with roughly 2.4 million subscribers. Partner operates its own 5G network and has focused on urban density, providing strong 5G coverage in major population centers.
  • Pelephone -- Owned by Bezeq, Israel's largest telecommunications company. Pelephone operates its own 5G network and benefits from Bezeq's existing infrastructure for backhaul connectivity.

Hot Mobile, the fourth MNO, has been slower to deploy 5G and does not currently offer dedicated 5G plans. MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) like Golan Telecom, Rami Levy, and 019 Mobile also do not offer 5G access, even when they operate on a 5G-equipped MNO's network. 5G access requires a direct contract with one of the three carriers listed above.

5G Coverage in Israel: Where Does It Reach?

Israel's small geographic size has been an advantage for 5G deployment. The country is roughly 470 km long and 135 km wide at its widest point, making it far easier to cover than larger nations. That said, 5G coverage is not yet universal.

Strong 5G coverage areas

All three carriers provide solid 5G coverage in the following areas:

  • Tel Aviv metropolitan area -- This is the best-covered region in Israel for 5G. The dense urban environment of Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, Givatayim, Bnei Brak, and Herzliya has been a priority for all carriers. You can expect consistent 5G speeds throughout most of the greater Tel Aviv area.
  • Jerusalem -- Coverage is strong in central Jerusalem, including the city center, major commercial districts, and many residential neighborhoods. Some outlying neighborhoods and areas near the Old City have patchier coverage due to building density and topography.
  • Haifa -- Israel's third-largest city has good 5G coverage in the city center, the Carmel area, and the technology parks in the bay area.
  • Central Israel corridor -- The densely populated stretch from Netanya through Herzliya, Ra'anana, Kfar Saba, and Petah Tikva to Rishon LeZion and Rehovot has extensive 5G coverage from all three carriers.
  • Be'er Sheva -- As the capital of the Negev and a growing tech hub, Be'er Sheva has received 5G deployment from all three carriers, though coverage is more limited than in the central region.

Limited or no 5G coverage

  • Rural Galilee and northern Israel -- Small towns and agricultural areas in the north have limited 5G. Major cities like Nazareth and Tiberias have some coverage, but it is inconsistent.
  • Negev desert -- Outside Be'er Sheva and Arad, the southern desert has virtually no 5G coverage. You will rely on 4G along Route 40 and Route 90.
  • Judean Hills and Dead Sea area -- Topographical challenges have slowed 5G deployment in this region. 4G coverage is available, but do not expect 5G at the Dead Sea resorts.
  • Eilat -- Israel's southernmost city has started receiving 5G deployment, but coverage remains incomplete.

The bottom line: if you live or work in the central coastal strip from Netanya to Ashdod, or in Jerusalem, you will get reliable 5G. Elsewhere, coverage varies by carrier and specific location.

Best 5G Plans in Israel (January 2026)

All three 5G carriers offer plans at multiple price points. Here are the current 5G plans worth considering:

Entry-level 5G (69/month)

If you want 5G access without paying a premium, all three carriers offer entry-level 5G plans at the same price point:

  • Cellcom Unlimited 69 (69/month / ~$19 USD) -- Unlimited calls and SMS, 3GB data, 5G access, eSIM support. This is the most affordable way onto Cellcom's 5G network. The 3GB data cap is modest, but sufficient for users who primarily rely on Wi-Fi and want 5G speeds when they do use mobile data.
  • Partner Unlimited (69/month / ~$19 USD) -- Unlimited calls and SMS, 3GB data, 5G access, eSIM support. Essentially identical to Cellcom's offering. Your choice between the two should come down to which carrier has better 5G coverage in your specific area.
  • Pelephone Unlimited Digital (69/month / ~$19 USD) -- Unlimited calls and SMS, 3GB data, 5G access, eSIM support. Pelephone's entry-level 5G plan matches the competition feature for feature.

At 69/month, you are paying roughly 10/month more than a comparable MVNO plan without 5G (such as Golan Telecom at 59/month for unlimited data on 4G). Whether that premium is worth it depends on your location and how much you value faster speeds.

Premium 5G (99-109/month)

For heavy data users who want 5G with generous data allowances and international calling, the premium tier delivers:

  • Pelephone Premium 100GB (99/month / ~$27 USD) -- 100GB data, unlimited calls and SMS, 50 international minutes, 5G access, eSIM support. The best value in the premium 5G tier, offering the same data allowance as Partner's plan at 10/month less.
  • Partner Premium 100GB (109/month / ~$30 USD) -- 100GB data, unlimited calls and SMS, 100 international minutes, 5G access, eSIM support. The most expensive plan on this list, but it includes double the international minutes compared to Pelephone and Cellcom. If you regularly call abroad, the extra 50 minutes may justify the higher price.
  • Cellcom Unlimited 100GB (99/month / ~$27 USD) -- 100GB data, unlimited calls and SMS, 50 international minutes, 5G access. Tied with Pelephone as the most affordable 100GB 5G plan.

What Does 5G Actually Mean for Users?

The marketing around 5G can be confusing. Here is what you actually experience in practice:

  • Faster download speeds. On a good 5G connection in Tel Aviv, you can see download speeds of 300-700 Mbps, compared to 30-80 Mbps on a typical 4G connection. This means downloading a 1GB file takes about 2-3 seconds on 5G versus 15-30 seconds on 4G.
  • Lower latency. 5G reduces latency (the delay between sending and receiving data) from roughly 30-50ms on 4G to 10-20ms on 5G. This makes a noticeable difference for video calls, online gaming, and real-time applications.
  • Better performance in crowded areas. 5G handles more simultaneous connections per tower. In dense environments like malls, concert venues, or train stations, you are less likely to experience slowdowns than on 4G.
  • Higher battery consumption. 5G radios use more power than 4G. Most users report a modest increase in battery drain (roughly 10-15%) when actively using 5G. Many phones let you toggle 5G off to save battery when speed is not critical.

When Is 5G Worth Paying For?

5G is not for everyone. Here is a straightforward breakdown of when it makes sense and when it does not:

5G is worth it if:

  • You live or work in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, or the central corridor and will actually benefit from coverage in your daily routine.
  • You use your phone as a mobile hotspot for laptop work and need fast, reliable speeds.
  • You frequently stream high-definition video on mobile data and do not want buffering.
  • You are on video calls regularly and want the lowest possible latency.
  • You already have a 5G-capable device. There is no point paying for 5G access if your phone only supports 4G.

5G is probably not worth it if:

  • You spend most of your time on Wi-Fi at home and at work. If your mobile data usage is casual (messaging, social media, navigation), 4G is perfectly adequate.
  • You live outside major urban areas where 5G coverage is spotty or nonexistent.
  • Budget is your top priority. You can get unlimited data on 4G from Golan Telecom for 59/month, which is 10/month cheaper than the cheapest 5G plan and includes far more data (unlimited vs 3GB).
  • Your phone does not support 5G. Older iPhones (before iPhone 12) and many budget Android devices lack 5G radios.

5G-Compatible Devices in Israel

To use 5G, you need a 5G-capable phone. Most flagship phones released since 2021 support 5G, including:

  • Apple: iPhone 12 and newer (iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, SE 4th gen)
  • Samsung: Galaxy S21 and newer, Galaxy A54 and newer, Galaxy Z Flip 3 and newer
  • Google: Pixel 6 and newer
  • Xiaomi, OnePlus, and others: Most mid-range and flagship models from 2022 onward

If you are unsure whether your device supports 5G, check your phone's specifications or ask your carrier. Note that your phone must also support the specific 5G frequency bands used in Israel (n78 is the primary band) to get 5G service.

Cellcom vs Partner vs Pelephone: Which Has the Best 5G?

All three carriers are close in terms of 5G quality, but there are differences:

  • Cellcom has the widest 5G footprint overall, benefiting from its position as Israel's largest carrier. If you travel frequently across the country, Cellcom offers the most consistent 5G coverage outside major cities.
  • Partner has focused on urban density, particularly in Tel Aviv and the surrounding suburbs. If you rarely leave the greater Tel Aviv area, Partner's 5G performance is excellent.
  • Pelephone benefits from its parent company Bezeq's fiber backbone for tower backhaul, which can result in faster peak speeds at individual towers. Pelephone also matches or undercuts competitors on pricing, particularly at the 100GB premium tier.

The Future of 5G in Israel

Israel's Ministry of Communications has mandated continued 5G expansion, with a target of covering 95% of the population by the end of 2027. Carriers are also beginning to trial mmWave (millimeter wave) 5G in select locations, which offers even faster speeds but over shorter distances. For most consumers, the sub-6 GHz 5G currently deployed is more than sufficient.

As coverage improves and prices inevitably drop, 5G will become the default for most Israeli mobile users. But in 2026, it remains an upgrade worth evaluating based on your specific location and usage patterns.
